- I studied mathematics and economics at the University of Hannover. After graduating with a degree in mathematics I joined Hannover Re in May 1995.
- During the first year of my career I became acquainted with all kinds of aspects of the life insurance business. Afterwards I worked as an Underwriter and Actuary in the German treaty department for the property and liability insurance business.
- In 1998 I joined the worldwide operating division Advanced Solutions.
- Since the beginning of 2002 I am responsible for structured reinsurance business worldwide. As Managing Director I now head the business center of Hannover Re Advanced Solutions.

Since that time I have been working as an underwriter in the worldwide operating division “Advanced Solutions”, which forms one of the eight main lines of Hannover Re's non-life business. As a senior underwriter, I am dealing with structured reinsurance business related to German, Austrian, Swiss, Italian, Eastern European, Middle Eastern as well as corporate and captive clients.

- I studied mathematics with the subsidiary subject economics at the Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg and finished with the diploma degree (equivalent to the master's degree). After my studies I held a research position within the excellence cluster “Nano structured Materials”, being part of the University of Halle. Having gained three years of experience with academic research in the fields of stochastic processes and evolution equations I was conferred of a doctorate and crossed lines towards the reinsurance industry by joining Hannover Re Advanced Solutions in September 2009.

- Business travel as a reinsurer: What do you enjoy most and what do you loathe?
The most exciting thing about travelling is to get in touch with different cultures and to experience metropolises which are not on our family travel plan. I extremely loathe waiting for connection flights or trains on airports or train stations.
- How do you normally spend the weekends at home?
Always with my family.
- What is your personal taste in music and/or literature?
This depends very much on my mood and varies from classical music and jazz to pop and rock but also to electronic music. Regarding literature, my favourite authors are Simon Singh, Dan Brown, and Tom Wolfe.

My favourite cities are Hong Kong, London, New York, Munich, and Leipzig. Regarding holidays I love travelling to Austria, Italy, Spain and Asia.

My wife, my daughter (although they are no “items”) and my notebook to keep the business running.

I really enjoy meeting people with a different cultural background. The negative aspect is that there is little leisure time left during a business trip.

I admire people that fight for their belief - this is independent from a special industry.

Anywhere with old castles, city walls or ruins to explore. So, Carcassonne, Mont Saint-Michel and the Rhine valley as well as Eisenach's Wartburg.

A teleporter, a replicator and an adequate power source. If unavailable, a supply of food, a fully charged satellite phone and my colleague Jan's book on Surviving on a remote Island with three Items if one of them is this Book.

A thousand years of technology is a lot to consider, but I have to admit my glasses mean a lot to me. They let me see. The electrical generator is another important invention.

I've a bit of a sweet tooth, so my favourite drink is Orangina. And there's nothing like a good lasagna and some mousse au chocolat.
